MULTI SESSION CLASS Flower MIG Welding

MULTI SESSION CLASS Flower MIG Welding In-Person

Hi everyone!

Super excited to announce my flower welding IAP class! As some of you may know, I have a long-term welding project where I weld a flower every time I fly home for break, so my mom has a bouquet of welded flowers by the time I graduate! I thought, what better than to show others how to do it too!

This class will help bridge the gap between beginner welding and completing a sculptural metal fabrication project. We will learn designing for welding, creating digital files, metal manipulation, fixturing, welding (of course), post-weld processing, and finishing.

You will be making two welded flowers, a rose and a lily, over the course of two weeks.

Prerequisite: You have ever welded something before this class. It could be one of our welding trainings, something from high school, etc.

Training seats will be offered by a random lottery. You must be able to attend all sessions 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (January 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, and 23)! There will also be a required tiny introduction session on January 10th (subject to change depending on availability). Our shop is tiny, so this class only has three seats!

Where: Metropolis Hotworks

When: January 10, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, and 23

What time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

How to apply:

1. Complete the lottery form
2. I will pull the lottery around and send acceptance emails around November 29th. I hope to have the class fully filled by December 1st!

Welded regards,

Eleni!

Important pre-class information:

Please come dressed for the shop, in sturdy clothes and footwear. For welding, wear long pants with mostly natural fiber content.

Contact lenses! If you have a choice between glasses & contacts, choose glasses. It's harder to see welding with contacts.

The welding shop can get very loud. If you have favorite earplugs, bring them!

Arc welding generates high intensity electric fields and interference - if you have an implanted electronic medical device, please get clearance from your doctor before coming to class.

Note: If you don’t show up to your training session you will NOT be able to sign up for another session without a reasonable explanation or a note from S^3. If you cancel the day of your training session without a reasonable explanation, you will also NOT be able to signup for another training session. Please contact ml-questions@mit.edu if you have questions about this policy.

Please be on time; while we do our best to accommodate lateness, we cannot always do so. Training will begin, at the latest, 5 minutes after the scheduled start time.

Please wear shop appropriate attire: closed-toed shoes, long hair tied back, no loose or dangling clothing.

Directions: Room 6C-006b. From the basement infinite corridor, at the junction of buildings 4 and 8, turn South into building 6C. You should see a facilities cage and murals. Follow signs to Metropolis on a left-right zigzag.
