TIG Welding 1

TIG Welding 1 In-Person

TIG Welding

In this class, you will learn to set up and operate the TIG welder. Tungsten Inert Gas arc welding (also known as GTAW) is a manual process that can be more precise and versatile than MIG, but often takes more practice to master. TIG welding is used for thin and small parts, structural steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, bronze, titanium, other metals, vehicle space frames, art, and more.

You will spend most of the session hands on, practicing the fundamental skills to create solid joints. The class is under development, and we may use either simple practice coupons, or experiment with small projects you can take home.

TIG Welding 2 and/or Welding Office Hours recommended to build your competency.

Important pre-class information:

Please come dressed for the shop, in sturdy clothes and footwear. For welding, wear long pants with mostly natural fiber content.

The welding shop can get very loud. If you have favorite earplugs, bring them!

Arc welding generates high intensity electric fields and interference - if you have an implanted electronic medical device, please get clearance from your doctor before coming to class.
